This is a Past High Priest jewel from Mountain Chapter No. 189 and dates from the 1870's.
Mountain Chapter is in Altoona Pennsylvania, and I believe it still exists.
The jewel belonged to Joseph R. Downing. Bro. Downing was a Civil War officer and even gave a speech at the Battle of Gettysburg. I am not really sure what that means, I think a lot of speeches were given.
This piece is Sterling and has a gold wash. It is beautifully and expertly hand engraved.
This jewel is 3.5" by 2" and weighs 20 grams. It is sterling.
relative amount I paid for this - low
