This is an IOOF Past Grand jewel, probably from the 1930s. The office of Past Grand is not what it would sound like to a mason. It would correspond sort of roughly to the Junior Warden of a masonic Lodge. What makes all of this a little more confusing (at least to me) is that the head officer of a lodge is termed the Noble Grand, and he becomes a Past Noble Grand.
This jewel seems to be a standard officer jewel of the kind which are usually owned by the lodge, as compared to something personally owned by a member.
It was manufactured by the Whitehead and Hoag Co.
I am not sure what sort of metal it is, other than being certain that it is not gold.
Here is a close up of the center. The F H C most certainly stand for Faith, Hope and Charity. These are the three theological virtues and are a common theme in fraternal organizations. See 1 Corinthians 13:13.
The F L T stand for Friendship, Love and Truth.
And as always the Eye of the Alien Overlord.
Just kidding, the all seeing Eye of Providence.
I bought this jewel as a part of a lot of old Odd Fellows Jewels:
This jewel is 4" by 2" and weighs 18 grams. It is an unknown metal.
relative amount I paid for this - low
As of 2/9/14 the scrap value works out to about $0.
However, none of these are for sale.
