Modern Woodmen of America - Past Consul - 1925

This is a fairly rare piece, it is the Past  Consul Jewel for a Camp of
the Modern Woodmen of America

From what I can tell by looking at the rituals of the woodmen, the Consul would correspond to the president or Master of the group.  The leader of the meeting at least.  There seems to be another officer, possibly afforded a more revered position - the Past Consul.  My guess is that this is a progression from one to the other.

This Jewel belonged to a Mr. H. R. Davies from Camp 5, in 1925
This jewel is very well made and finely engraved.  But it is very thin.  The thinnest I have ever seen, 1 mm at most at the widest part.  This probably has to do with the high cost of the materials.
Or maybe the woodmen were frail.

This also gives you an idea of the relative size.  These jewels come in all sizes.  Here is an example of what I mean:

This jewel is 2.25" by 1.5" and weighs only 7 grams.  It is 10k gold.
relative amount I paid for this - low
As of 2/9/14 the gold scrap value works out to about $119
However, none of these are for sale.
