Detroit Commandery #1 - 1920s

This is a Commandery Jewel from Detroit No.1

I'm going to do more research on the Detroit Commandery, but from what I have read they had 1,200 members at roughly the point this jewel was made.   This jewel seems to be a member's jewel and not a badge of office.

I have seen this same jewel in stamped brass and in sterling.  Perhaps there was a member of the Commandery that was a jeweler, or something.

Here is what that looks like to compare to the construction of the above version:
I do not own this one.......

This jewel is 3.75" by 2" and weighs 26 grams.  It is 10k gold (tested).
relative amount I paid for this - medium
As of 2/9/14 the gold scrap value works out to about $440.
However, none of these are for sale.

  1. Detroit Commandery #1 still uses a Jewel for all members as the one at the top. It is presented at Knighting to the newest SK as his Detroit #1 Drill Badge. Now it has a Red Velvet Ribbon behind the implements but has remained virtually unchaged.
