This is a Past Master Jewel which was presented to David J Crouse of Hamilton Lodge No. 274 F&AM on June 11th - 1935.
Hamilton Lodge is in Pennsylvania.
This Jewel shares many of the same constructions as others I own. The 47th problem and a few symbols or working tools of the craft scattered above a wonderfully engraved background.
I say scattered because, to me at least, the tools or symbols seem to be chosen for something other than their symbolic meaning. Perhaps chosen so that there is a visual balance to the piece. This isn't necessarily bad, it just doesn't seem to express a coherent story or message.
But... this piece does show great craftsmanship.
This jewel is missing the ribbon at the top and there also would have originally been a title-bar at the top with the pin or catch.
This jewel is 4" by 5" and weighs 50 grams. It is sterling.
relative amount I paid for this - low
As of 2/19/14 the silver scrap value works out to about $35
However, none of these are for sale.
