Knights of the Golden Eagle - 1880s

This one is a very small, more like lapel pin, jewel.  I do not know who owned it, but the construction and the history of the organization indicate a Victorian time frame.

It is constructed of sterling, with a thick transparent enamel coating, and gold elements.

Okay, but who were the Knights of The Golden Eagle?  I bought this jewel without knowing the answer to that.  I just was intrigued by the construction and near perfect condition.

It was a relatively short-lived fraternal service or mutual benefit society.  See Wikipedia article.

This jewel is 1.75" by .75" and weighs 5 grams.  It is sterling and gold.
relative amount I paid for this - low
As of 2/9/14 the silver and gold scrap value works out to about $40ish
However, none of these are for sale.
